"QUIT" NOT IN MONGO RACING TEAM'S VOCABULARY

Merritt ready for Terrible's Town 250, where he was put to the test in 2007

-----

Win or go home?

Randy Merritt doesn't think so.

Case in point: The 2006 Best in the Desert Racing Association Terrible's Town 250, where he waged a thrilling, nearly fender-to-fender battle with the best in the class, right up to the final 50 miles, and settled for fourth place, almost two and half hours off the winning time. So close, yet so far.

A broken rear end, and a broken driveline ended his run to the checkered flag. But he didn't give up, took home the fourth place points, and in the end was crowned the Full-Stock Division champion.

"I know it probably sounds stupid, but we don't know how to quit," said Merritt matter-of-factly as he and his Mongo Racing Team prepared for the 2007 Terrible's Town 250, scheduled April 28 outside Pahrump, Nev.

Obviously.

The team's tenacity was one of the keys to Merritt's winning the 2006 crown.

And it's likely the same tenacity will be put to the test again and again before 2007 is over.

"I'm very proud of what we were able to accomplish, and how we accomplished it. And I know we can do it again," said the defending champion, who drove to a second place finish in the 2007 season-opening Blue Water Casino Parker 425.

"But to be real honest, I really hope we don't have the problems we had last year at this race, "I'd rather get in and drive and not have to worry about anything, and win by a nice, comfortable margin."

The race will cover 242 miles of rugged Nevada desert, beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday morning. Contingency and technical inspection is scheduled Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

"We're ready. Oh yeah, we're ready," said Merritt with a smile.

The KC HiLites Ford F-150 is again shod with Goodyear rubber all the way around, mounted on Allied Wheels, a new sponsor for Mongo Racing.

"We're excited to have Allied Wheels on board as a sponsor," said Merritt.
